Our Tradition …
Here at Daybreak Farm, we follow the Native American 7th Generation Philosophy ... working our land so that in seven generations it will be better than it is today. This land is our land and we encourage everyone to honor the spirit of Woody Guthrie’s great anthem. We encourage you to compost all wastes to sweeten the soil. We believe that loving, organic farming is a fine way to honor the earth and it’s loving stewards.
Come visit us in the summer
We invite you to visit the farm during our summer Lavender Harvest that runs from mid-June through mid-August. Picnic by the pond. Walk our trails. Meditate in our outdoor Forest Spirit Room. Meet our happy, friendly flock of feather-legged Cochin hens and roosters. See the lavender field. And, of course, pick your own Lavender Bouquet. Click here for this year’s Harvest details.
The Affordable Luxury of Fine Handcrafted Soap
For our soaps, we use the finest fresh plant oils and butters sourced both locally here in Ohio and imported from around the world. 100% of our shea butter comes from a women’s cooperative in Ghana. Every batch of DayBreak all natural soap is handcrafted by our Master Soap Artisans using the old-fashioned cold process method in small quality controlled batches.
What is the cold process method?
Our soaps are made using the cold process method. That means they are not cooked in vats like the synthetic detergent bars (syndets) in the grocery. And next time you’re there, look at the labels on those bars. They don’t say soap because they are not soap. They cannot legally be called soap. They are detergents.
Why Extended Curing Matters
DayBreak soaps are made with nothing but the finest oils, butters, essential oils, concretes and absolutes. In the rare case where no essential oil exists – lilac for example – we formulate with elegant perfumer’s oils. After your soap is hand blended, scented and swirled, it’s poured into a pine mold where it hardens for 24 to 72 hours. When it is firm enough to unmold but still soft enough to cut, it’s turned out, hand cut and racked on our curing shelves where it matures for 60 - 90 days. Watch out for low quality handmade soaps, where the curing time is shortened to two weeks, maybe 30 days. Those soaps will turn to moosh in your shower. DayBreak’s extended curing time, guarantees you a well-scented, gentle, hard, long-lasting bar of soap with an insanely rich lather. Our luxury soaps are the ultimate affordable luxury AND a solid value!!
And, of course, that same commitment to quality, is reflected in every single thing we make … skin care, body care, aromatherapy, home keeping and gourmet goodies.
Exquisite ingredients lavishly used … we walk that talk!!
