The secret of DayBreak's Body Fresh is in our use of hydrosols where most formulators use water.

Hydrosols -- or Distillates as they are often called -- are often the natural "plant waters" or "floral waters" that are produced during steam distillation or hydro-distillation. DayBreak's hydrosols are not a by-product of essential oil production. Our Hydrosols and Distillates are obtained directly from our organically grown botanicals or from native plants that are gathered from our woods and fields. When the plant is not native to Ohio, we find a fair trade, organic source and purchase it fresh and then steam off the hydrosol.

Hydrosols are wonderful in natural skin care products and can also be used in aromatherapy. In the recent past, distillate water was considered the by-product of essential oil production and was discarded.

Today hydrosols are honored for their own inherent characteristics and complexities. Hydrosols typically represent the water-soluble constituents of the botanical with some volatile components such as the essential oils. In certain cases, and depending on the botanical and the season harvested, our hydrosols contain varying amounts of added essential oil.

Do keep in mind, this is not an antiperspirant ... it won't stop sweat. But who'd want to trap sweat under the skin. Naturally, to ensure rapid evaporation, DayBreak Body Fresh also uses medical grade alcohol but it's our use of hydrosols that give our Body Fresh blends the healing, softening and life-enhancing properties of hydrosols from Mother Nature.

DayBreak Private Estate Lavender Blend Essential Oils with Lilac Fragrance in a quick-drying blend of Alcohol, with Honeysuckle Hydrosol. Honeysuckle (Lonicera japonica) has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for many years, but it's not typically used by western herbalists. Japanese Honeysuckle contains antiviral and antibacterial components and has a multitude of uses. One source reports 27 and 30 monoterpenoids and sesquiterpenoids were identified from the essential oil of the dry flower and fresh flower respectively. The major constituents have been found to be linalool, geraniol, aromadendrene and eugenol etc. The leaves contain tannins as well.
Our hydrosol was made from flowers, buds, and tender young leaves and is for external use only. It has a slightly floral, but mostly green scent. Honeysuckle Hydrosol can be used directly on skin as an astringent and antiseptic wash or as a skin soother so it goes the extra mile ... deodorizing and soothing.

Ginger Root is obtained from the rhizomes of the tropical/sub-tropical perennial known as Zingiber officinale. Ginger Root is known around the world, but has been extensively used in traditional Chinese and Ayurveda medicine. Ginger Root Essential Oil is used by aromatherapists for grounding and centering to create balance. The Herbarie's Ginger Root Hydrosol contains water soluble constituents as well as a small amount of the essential oil and has fresh ginger scent.
